A Thousand Words in None

Emptiness is everything.
It’s headspace    my place,
alone.
Our lives, blank minds
Are all we have together,
This freeing feeling
it is what I am,
A surplus of stories,
passed down through generations
not words   just light
for this is her story, now mine
in all its might
this unfathomable truth
a story never told   but felt.

Meet Aria—our junior editor at ISBUND and a whirlwind of curiosity, creativity and ambition! Proud of her Kashmiri roots, Aria draws inspiration from her heritage, her family and the world around her. Whether she’s running across the cricket ground, building intricate LEGO masterpieces or diving into the mysteries of Science and Maths, Aria brings energy and imagination to everything she does. Her love for learning is matched only by her big dreams: Aria hopes to one day become a neurosurgeon, blending her fascination with the human brain and her drive to help others. Until then, she’s busy exploring new ideas, taking on school projects and proving that you’re never too young to chase after what excites you. When she’s not exploring new projects, debating strategies with her friends or letting her imagination run wild, Aria is always ready for the next adventure. For her, every day is a chance to discover something new with a fearless heart and a mind hungry for discovery.

This is a really thoughtful poem for such a young mind. It shows strong imagination, deep thinking, and a wonderful understanding of feelings. The poem shows maturity in the way the ideas are expressed, and it feels very creative and meaningful. Aria, if you keep writing and exploring more images and rhythm, you have great potential to develop a very unique and powerful voice. I will be eagerly waiting to read more. Bless you.

I am amazed at the depth of the little words which carry such heavy meaning.
The ability to articulate, express and capture these mature views shows your deep understanding of the world and how beautifully you have evolved as a writer already.

    My dearest Aria,

We have re-read this poem a few times over since the day you shared it. We cannot tell you how proud we are to know you have such a talent with words, and you did not even use many. Perhaps this was the shortest poem at the competition, but every word you have used is power-packed.

“A surplus of stories, passed down through generations / not words just light” — how beautifully have you expressed the weight of the memories we have all been carrying and passing on without even knowing. You were never there, and yet you have felt all of it. That is not imagination, that is love travelling through generations.

This is not just your mother’s story, or ours. You have made it something new. A story never told but felt. You have felt it true.

    With all our love,

    Nani and Nanu
