From the moment I knew life stirred within me, a silent promise was born, a promise to protect, nurture, and celebrate the soul growing inside me. That soul was our son, Anugrah Vali, born on 25 May 1997 at Al-Wasl Hospital, Dubai. What began as a parent’s journey of anticipation soon unfolded into a path few understand and even fewer dare to walk, one marked not only by love but also by trials, upheavals, and quiet victories.
Our only child was diagnosed with mild autism. At first, it felt as though the ground had shifted beneath us. There were questions with no clear answers, a storm of medical terms, and an aching fear of the unknown. Yet even amidst the chaos, one image remains clear: the unshakable spark in his eyes that refused to be dimmed.
Pessimism loomed like a storm cloud over our once-sunny skies. But slowly, with time and immense patience, we began to notice the rays of light hidden within that storm.
We came to realise that autism was not a limitation. It was a different language of life, and so we learned that language. We attuned ourselves to Anugrah’s rhythms, his needs, and his subtle expressions. While society might label him “differently abled”, to us, he has always been uniquely gifted.
As parents, my husband, Anoop Vali, and I found our lives becoming a series of hard-won lessons. We braved misunderstanding from others, adjusted routines, and often stood alone in a crowd. Yet through every challenge, we discovered the brilliance that is our son. His autism was not a flaw, it was simply a different way of being, one with its own beauty.
During this journey, I decided to move to Jammu, as Dubai offered little support for children with special needs, while my husband remained there for some years. It was a difficult decision, but one made out of love and necessity.
Every milestone, no matter how small, became a celebration. From his growing confidence in speech to his blossoming emotional intelligence, from singing his heart out to confidently taking the wheel while driving, Anugrah blossomed, and we blossomed with him.
Today, at 25–26 years of age, Anugrah is a vibrant, independent young man, a talented singer, a graceful dancer, and an employee at Lemon Tree Hotel in Jammu. He drives on his own, performs on stage, and lights up every room with his presence.
Behind his success lies not just resilience but countless unseen struggles, nights of tears, days of worry, and years of unwavering dedication. There were times when the world did not understand him, but we did, and that was enough to keep moving forward.
Our journey from pessimism to optimism was not instant. It was built slowly, brick by brick, through love, learning, unlearning, and an abundance of faith. We discovered strength we never knew we had and a purpose deeper than we ever imagined.
Ours is not a story of despair, but of rising again and again, stitched together by hope, determination, and love. From the womb of a mother to the heart of a family, Anugrah’s journey stands as a testament that every child, no matter how different, is born with a light meant to shine.
